Getting a new puppy or dog is an exciting moment in a person’s life. Dogs become part of our daily life and our family and PAWS is dedicated to helping pets stay in their forever homes.
Thank you for considering adopting from PAWS for Life Foundation. Once your adoption application reaches us, the process begins. The adoption process is not too long, but we do want to make sure that our Rescues are going to great homes.
The process is not complicated but can take 7-14 days depending on how many applicants there are and the availability of help from our volunteers. We will always try to be as prompt as possible and will keep you as up to date as we can.
Getting a dog is a commitment from you to give them unconditional love and fulfill all of their needs for the rest of their lives. The basics include love, food, water and shelter, but there is so much more. Additional things to consider might be what you will do with the dog if you go on vacation, if you will be able to provide additional vet care in the event of an emergency, or if you would be able to take your dog if you had to move. Training is needed for all dogs regardless of age; it is the best way to build a relationship and to learn how to communicate with your dog despite distractions around you. Regular maintenance includes toys, beds, leashes, collars, bowls, food and all other day to day items your pet will require to live comfortably. There could also could be extras such as doggy daycare, boarding, and grooming if needed.
Pets are dependent on the people they live with. Adopting means you are willing to make sacrifices in your own life in order to give your pet whatever it needs for the rest of its life. The love and loyalty of your adopted buddy will always repay you tenfold.
After receiving your application, an Adoption Coordinator will contact you via phone to discuss your application. It’s important that we understand your needs so that we can find the right PAWS pet for your home. Because PAWS for Life rescues dogs with a variety of temperaments, we handle each application individually. This means our application process can vary for each dog. Our volunteers invest a lot of time in getting to know and understand each of our pets and we want to ensure we are matching you with the best choice possible. In some situations, an application may come in for a specific dog, but we might have a better suited pet for your home.
Once your application has been approved, we arrange to meet with you and any other members of the family (including other pets) before moving on to the final adoption contract.
Sometimes locating the right pet for your family takes days and sometimes months. When PAWS rescues a dog, we book them into see the vet for a checkup, vaccinations, and receive a microchip. We will also make sure they are spayed/neutered before sending them to their new homes. If there are any health or temperament issues, the pet will not be available for adoption until it is healthy and temperamentally sound. We start working with the dogs immediately and get to know their personalities.
Once an application has been approved and the meeting has proven successful, we move to the final step with the adoption contract. This agreement outlines our minimum standards for keeping this pet and states that if for any reason you are unable to keep this pet, the pet must be returned to PAWS for Life Foundation.
We are a non-profit organization, however there is a minimum adoption donation that is used to fund medical bills, food, and many other necessities our rescues have while in our care. Our adoption fees are #375.00 for dogs and $425 for puppies (up to 6 months)
Foster volunteers provide a temporary home for the animals in our care. This maybe a few days or a few months. You provide the loving home and we provide all the supplies and support you need. A foster home gives dogs waiting to find that perfect home an opportunity to feel a part of a family and learn new skills.
